Road Improvement Project

The Borough of Hellertown has implemented rigorous road improvement program program since 2007. This was made possible by the combined effort of both Hellertown and Lower Saucon Townships Public Works Crews.  A crew from Hellertown and Lower Saucon each summer combines and paves both Borough and Townships Roads Identified in the Spring of each year.  This Partnership saves both the Borough and Township residents significantly  by working together to reduce the costs associated in bidding these projects to outside contractors, with those savings we are able to repair additional roads each year.  

 

In 2008 this program was extended via the Saucon Valley Partnership (Council of Governments) to The Saucon Valley School District Campus Road/Parking Lot Resurfacing Project.  The School District estimated that had the School Campus road and lot resurfacing been put out for competitive bids, based on the increased costs for petroleum based asphalt products, the cost to the School District would have been approximately $240,000. Through the Saucon Valley Partnership Joint Paving Project, the school district paid only for materials, fuel and advertising costs which totaled $68,915.99 thus realizing a savings of over $170,000 to taxpayers in the Saucon Valley.
